I am writing about this because it’s so amazing that two very significant markers of my salvation and walk with the Lord have surfaced within the past five days. First, I was friended on Facebook by the pastor who led me to Christ for the first time on October 31, 1995 (Halloween Night). Pastor David Allbritton has left a huge mark on my heart with his passion and devotion to Jesus. Truly a reminder of the goodness of God.

Second was this Bible that someone randomly posted on Facebook on Halloween night, 2009. This Bible wasn’t just a Bible, it was a lifeline for me growing up. These two events are obvious signs from God. When was the last time some Christian person with a cross on their profile pic uploaded a pic of a significant part of your life? Who uploads pics of old books, anyway? Hello! I think we’re beyond coincidence at this point.

Like I say, this Bible was more than just a Bible to me. Growing up with little parental guidance, or teaching on morality. I was very much a child alone in the world and this Bible served as a type of parent for me. When I was about nine years old, I found this Bible at my grandmother’s garage sale. Being the reader that I was (even then), I took it home and hungrily devoured it.

It was much more readable than the King James Bible I’d experienced as a 2nd grader. This Bible, “The Way,” was the New Living Translation, and much easier to read. It also made it more comfortable by breaking down the sections and opening up the Bible to the different books such as Psalms, John, Corinthians. Other times when I started to read the Bible, I’d always start in Genesis–and reading the King James Bible starting from Genesis is hard for an adult, much less a little girl. This Bible was something I could read and relate to.

I never went to church. Never had rules or curfews growing up. My mom had me when she was young and we were both growing up together, more like sisters. This Bible really helped me when I was at my loneliest spots.

I most enjoyed the sections it offers for “when you’re angry,” or “when you’re upset,” or “when you’re doubting.” There would be times in despair that I would open this word and God would speak to me through the pages. His soothing voice, in the midst of my harsh circumstances. This word was so powerful, I didn’t realize it at the time, but I had begun to memorize the scriptures within it.

As the years passed and I became a teen, I put this Bible away, under my bed. My life went from that of an innocent child to a wild adolescent girl looking for love and acceptance. I began to feel that the Bible was full of rules that were “ideal,” but that were never meant to be lived. Drugs and alcohol began to take the place of the God of my youth.

Once, at my worst point–I reached for the Bible under my bed and opened the pages. The words on the page yelled at me–or so it seemed. I slammed it shut and shoved it under my bed.

Eventually I found “love and acceptance” in the arms of a violent young man who abused me daily. It was during this time that my beloved Bible was ripped into shreds. I have never forgotten about it and I’m grateful for what it did to teach me the truth.

Not long after my Bible was ruined, I heard about a soul winning seminar at First Family Church where both of the Pastor Allbrittons’ were preaching. I walked the isle on Halloween Night, 1995 and accepted Christ as my personal savior. He immediately came into my heart and started the healing process. My life has never been the same.

It is because of his service to God and to His people, and that of his wife and his father and mother, that I am here today, happy, alive and free indeed. Countless others who were led to God by him are also grateful for his devotion to Jesus.

The Bible says that “the harvest is ripe, but he laborers are few.” (Matt. 9:37) David Allbritton and his wife Linda, and their family are true laborers for Christ. He has written many books, speaks on TBN, led a March for Jesus and has saved thousands and thousands as an evangelist traveling the world. He gives the best salvation altar call that I have ever heard in my life.

Until you receive Jesus into your heart.

It offers a whole new dimension to life. By His spirit, you come to know what living is all about. You can’t help but fall on your knees to humbly bow down to the superior intelligence that is your creator.

Jesus is life.

I feel sorry for people who cannot see and do not understand it. When you receive the gift of salvation and the baptism of the Holy Spirit, your life is never the same. Old things pass away, and behold, He makes all things new.

The songs that brings you joy is nothing compared to the songs of the Lord.
The money that brings you joy is nothing compared to the richness of God.
The thing that brings you joy is nothing compared with the things God has for you.

God created joy. He knows how to give it authentically–not the way the world does.
All the world can offer is counterfeit joy, counterfeit peace, counterfeit worship.

There is only one truth. One absolute truth. His name is Jesus Christ, Lord of All.
